CUSTOMER JOURNEY ANALYTICS (CJA)ADOBE ANALYTICS

Every analytics team has been here. A stakeholder opens a workspace in Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) or Adobe Analytics, builds a report, and shares the result with leadership. The numbers look wrong. After two hours of investigation, someone discovers the analyst used an unapproved, deprecated dimension that the data governance team had already replaced with a cleaner, validated version , months ago. Nobody knew. The governance work was invisible. This is not a people problem. It is a tooling problem. And it is exactly the kind of problem Lens is built to solve.

What Is Lens?

Lens is a Chrome extension purpose-built for organizations running Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), including its analytics products ; Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) and Adobe Analytics. It lives inside the tools your team already uses every day, adding a layer of visibility that Adobe’s native UI simply does not provide.

You could configure governance, approve components, set up data views in AA/CJA; but the moment someone opened a workspace to do actual analysis, all that governance became invisible.

Lens makes it visible.

Today we’re starting where the pain is most immediate and most costly:

analytics component governance in CJA and Adobe Analytics workspaces.

The Governance Gap No One Talks About

Adobe’s component governance model is genuinely well-designed; in theory. In CJA, data view administrators can mark individual dimensions, metrics, calculated metrics, segments, and date ranges as approved. Approved means: this component has been validated, it is reliable, and it is the right one to use for this type of analysis. Adobe Analytics has the same concept. Report suite administrators can approve components so analysts know which ones reflect the organization’s agreed-upon definitions.

The problem? Adobe’s workspace UI treats approved and unapproved components identically.

When an analyst opens the left-hand components rail ; the panel they use to search and drag components into their reports ; every component looks the same with tiny grey tick mark for approved variable which is hard to see. When we use any of those approved component in workspace reporting, we don't even see any tiny grey tick mark.

The downstream consequences are predictable:

  • Analysts build reports on the wrong components without realizing it

  • Data governance teams do meaningful curation work that goes unnoticed

  • Business stakeholders receive metrics that don’t align with company-agreed definitions

  • Quality reviews happen after the fact, not before

This gap exists not because organizations aren’t serious about governance ; most enterprise AEP customers are ; but because the tooling doesn’t close the loop between configuration and usage.

What Lens Does: Approved Component Highlighting

Lens closes that loop with a feature called the Approved Component Highlighter. The moment you open a CJA or Adobe Analytics workspace with Lens installed, every approved component in your environment gets a visual highlight.

Color-Coded by Type

Lens uses a consistent, intentional soft color language of existing component left boarders.

These colors appear as gentle background fills on the components themselves ; light enough not to interfere with readability, distinct enough to be immediately recognizable. The color system is the same whether you are looking at CJA or Adobe Analytics, so your team only needs to learn it once.

Where It Appears

The highlighting shows up in two places ; exactly where analysts spend their time:

1. The Components Rail (left panel)

This is where analysts browse and search for dimensions, metrics, segments, and date ranges to drag into their reports. With Lens, approved components stand out at a glance. An analyst building a new report can immediately see which components their data team has signed off on, without having to check documentation, ask a colleague, or look up governance records.

2. Freeform Tables (columns, row dimensions, static rows)

An existing report may already contain components that were approved at the time they were added ; or weren’t. Lens highlights approved components directly inside the table itself, on the column headers, row dimension labels, and static rows. This means you can audit an existing workspace at a glance. If a column is highlighted, the metric behind it is approved. If it isn’t, that’s worth a second look.

3. Precision Matching

One of the more subtle problems in analytics governance is naming collisions. Two dimensions can share an identical display name but refer to completely different underlying data. Lens resolves this by matching components on their internal identifier ; not their name ; so there is no risk of a false positive where an unapproved component gets highlighted because it happens to have the same name as an approved one.

For Data Architects & Analytics Engineers

You’ve done the work. You’ve curated the data views, set approval flags, defined the metrics that align with business logic. Lens is how that work finally shows up at the point of use.

Instead of relying on documentation, Slack reminders, or tribal knowledge to guide analysts toward the right components, the guidance is embedded directly in the tool. Adoption of governed components improves not because you enforced it, but because approved components are visually obvious.

It also makes your reviews faster. When a stakeholder shares a workspace and asks whether the analysis is sound, you can see immediately ; at a glance ; whether the components in use are approved ones. What used to take a manual component-by-component audit takes seconds.

For Analytics Practitioners & Analysts

You no longer need to memorize which components your organization has approved, maintain a separate spreadsheet of validated metrics, or ask your data team before starting every analysis.

Lens gives you that context passively, in the moment you need it. When you search the components rail, the approved ones stand out. When you are reviewing a report someone else built, you can see at a glance whether the foundation is solid. This makes you faster and more confident ; and it reduces the back-and-forth between analysts and governance teams.

For Business Stakeholders & Analytics Leaders

Governance programs are only as effective as their adoption. If the people doing the analysis aren’t consistently using approved, validated components, the governance effort doesn’t translate into data quality ; regardless of how well the components were curated in the first place.

Lens creates a passive compliance nudge at the point of decision. Analysts see approved components highlighted; they naturally gravitate toward them. Over time, reports built on governance-aligned foundations become the norm rather than something that has to be enforced.

For leaders concerned about data trust and reporting consistency, this matters. It shortens the path from “we have governance policies” to “our reports reflect those policies.”

Works Across Both CJA and Adobe Analytics

Many organizations use both Customer Journey Analytics and the legacy Adobe Analytics product side by side ; different teams, different use cases,

migrating gradually between the two. Lens supports both environments with the same visual system, so the experience is consistent regardless of which workspace your team opens.

The component highlighting works in CJA workspaces and in Adobe Analytics workspaces embedded within the Adobe Experience Platform interface. One extension, both tools, the same color language.
