Who is this for ?

For Marketers The audiences your campaigns depend on stay alive, without a reminder in someone's calendar..

For Data Engineers One run instead of a hundred clicks, the status of every audience on its own row, and a file that shows exactly what changed.

For Analytics Leaders An expired audience is a campaign that quietly stops reaching people. This takes that risk off the table.

What Is Lens?

Lens is a Chrome extension built for teams running Adobe Experience Platform. It works inside the AEP interface you already have open and uses your existing session: no extra login, no API credentials to configure, no data export step. Earlier articles in this series covered analytics component governance in CJA and Adobe Analytics, the Schema ERD Canvas, the Source Dataflow Canvas, Analyze Failed Batch, and Smart Search on the Audiences page, Export audience, Query runner. This one covers keeping external audiences from expiring

What Happens to Each Audience

For every audience in the run Lens does three things, in order, and shows the status on the audience's row:

  1. Sets the audience's time to live to the days you asked for.

  2. Asks AEP to extend the audience.

  3. Waits a few seconds and reads the audience back, so the new expiry on the row is the one AEP reports, not the one Lens hoped for.

The new expiry counts from the moment of the extension, not from the old expiry date. The form says so: "Extend expiry of the selected audiences to 99 days from today".

When AEP Says No

AEP has its own rules, and Lens shows them in plain words on the row instead of hiding them:

- An audience can be extended at most once in 24 hours.

- An audience with no ingested data cannot be extended until it gets a data refresh.

When the time to live was set but the extension itself was refused, the row reads Partial. Its Retry runs only the extension, not the whole sequence again.

Big Runs Run in the Background

A run of a hundred or more audiences takes minutes. Lens runs it in the extension's background, not in the page, so you do not have to sit and watch it.

- The rail shows how many audiences have finished as the run goes.

- Close the drawer, reload the page, or close the tab: the run carries on.

- Open the rail again and it shows the run still going, or the last one that finished.

On one production sandbox, 142 Campaign Orchestration audiences were extended to 30 days in a single run.

A File for the Record

When the run finishes, Lens saves a CSV without being asked: tenant, sandbox and time in the file name, one row per audience the run touched. Each row carries the audience's name, ID, count and origin, when it was created and last updated, its expiry before and after with the days left on each, its status, and AEP's message when something did not finish.

An external audience in AEP does not live forever. A Campaign Orchestration audience or a custom upload keeps its members for a set number of days after its last refresh, 30 when nobody set it, and then the members are gone. AEP's own page lets you add another 30 days, one audience at a time, and only in the last 7 days before it expires. With a handful of audiences that is a calendar reminder. With a hundred it is a chore that somebody eventually misses. Lens turns it into one run from the Audiences page.

What Is Extend Audience Expiry?

Lens adds an orange hourglass to the toolbar of AEP's Audiences page, and the same hourglass beside "Data expiration" on an audience's details page. Click it and the Lens drawer opens on the Extend Audience Expiry rail. The rail lists the sandbox's external audiences that have an expiry and members, soonest to expire first, all selected. Search by name, origin or ID, untick the ones you want to leave alone, enter a number of days and click Extend.

  • Many audiences at once: One run covers every audience you left ticked.

  • Any time: No waiting for the last 7 days.

  • Any length: Any whole number of days from 1 to 3650, almost 10 years. The field starts at 99.

Opened from a details page, the rail shows just that audience, with Show all audiences one click away
